"Salman Khan Has A Pattern: The Seven-Year Itch," Says Somy Ali

Somy Ali, an actress and social worker who dated Bollywood actor Salman Khan in the 90s, says being known as his ex-girlfriend is the biggest curse for her. Speaking exclusively to IANS, Somy Ali spoke about her days with Salman, her tryst with Bollywood, her NGO No More Tears, underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, etc. When asked, "If her tumultuous relationship with Salman Khan had yielded any benefits, such as increased recognition, as even today she's often identified as Salman's ex-girlfriend".

Somy replied, "It is the biggest curse for me. I have done such good work in America and achieved so much, still, people identify me as Salman's ex-girlfriend." She continued, "Salman Khan will be turning 59 or 60 this December, still behaves like a playground or high school bully, harassing others due to his insecurities. He keeps telling people not to talk to me."

She also discussed Manisha Koirala, revealing: "Manisha told me that someone had informed her I had cancer. I was shocked. I said: 'No, what are you saying? I wanted to reach out to you because we hadn't been in touch for so long. In fact, I had no idea about your cancer.'"

She shared insights on her relationship with Salman Khan, saying, "Salman has a pattern — the seven-year itch. Women usually stay with him for seven years before discovering his true self. Interestingly, he never ends relationships; the girl always walks away. It takes her seven years to figure out what he truly is."

Somy Ali revealed she had no contact with the Indian film industry for a long time. She explained, "Whenever I thought of Indian cinema, it reminded me of Salman, filling me with sadness and depression."

Two Days After Iranian Woman's Arrest For Stripping, Her Whereabouts Unknown

Two days ago, a video surfaced showing an Iranian woman stripping down to her underwear to protest harassment by the moral police at a university in Tehran. Footage on social media showed her being bundled into a car by men in plain clothes and being driven off to an undisclosed location.

The woman, who has not been identified, was allegedly harassed inside Tehran's prestigious Islamic Azad University by members of the Basij paramilitary force who ripped her headscarf and clothes, according to reports by several news outlets and social media channels outside Iran.

Azad University's public relations director Amir Mahjob said in a post on X that the student, separated from her husband and a mother of two, “had a mental disorder". Local newspaper Farhikhtegan too stated that she had been admitted to a mental health facility.

Two days later, her whereabouts remain unknown, which has prompted Amnesty International's Iran chapter to call for her immediate release. "Authorities must protect her from torture and other ill-treatment, and ensure access to family and lawyer. Allegations of beatings and sexual violence against her during arrest need independent and impartial investigations," the organisation said.

Mai Sato, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Islamic Republic of Iran, said on X that she would be “monitoring this incident closely, including the authorities' response.”

It is mandatory for women in Iran to wear a headscarf and loose-fitting clothes in public, the violation of which had led to the arrest of Iranian-Kurdish Mahsa Amini in 2022. Later, she died in custody, leading to vehement protests across the country where women removed and event burnt their headscarves. Iranian actress Hengameh Ghaziani was among those detained for removing her hijab on Instagram in solidarity with the movement. A subsequent crackdown left over 500 protesters dead.

Iran's morality police or Gasht-e-Ershad was established in 2006 to ensure the strict implementation of veiling laws that have existed since the 1980s. They patrol public places and have been present increasingly in schools and colleges, and monitor women's attire.

Since then, women have been protesting these laws, by wearing tight clothes or showing their hair in public and on social media.

Rohit's Blunt "Batting, Captaincy" Confession After Embarrassing 0-3 Sweep

A man of his words, a man of character, India captain Rohit Sharma didn't mince words as he reflected on the team's horrific 0-3 Test series loss at home against New Zealand. After completely being outplayed by the Kiwis in the first two Tests, India looked to have done enough in the Wankhede encounter but the batters hit self-destruct yet again. Barring Rishabh Pant, no other Indian batter managed to withstand the pressure created by the Kiwi spinners. India captain Rohit Sharma also admitted after the match that his team failed to fire collectively.

"Yeah, absolutely, you know, losing a series, losing a Test is never easy, it's something that's not easily digestible," Rohit said while speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony. "Again, we didn't play our best cricket, we know and we have to accept. They (New Zealand) did so much better than us. We made a lot of mistakes and we'll have to accept it. We didn't put enough runs on the board in the 1st innings (in Bengaluru and Pune) and we were behind in the game, here, we got a 30-run lead, we thought we were ahead, the target was achievable as well, we had to do better though."

When asked about his own performances, particularly from the attacking style point of view that Rohit displayed throughout the series, he admitted that such things don't look good when teams don't win.

"You want runs on the board as well, that's something that was there in my mind (on his own batting today), it didn't come off and when it happens, it doesn't look great. There are certain ideas on my mind when I go to bat, but in this series, it didn't come off and that's disappointing for me," he said.

Rohit was full of praise for Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant, the two batters who managed to get some runs on the board in the third Test. But, the Hitman conceded that the feeling of such a defeat is going to hurt him for a long time.

"Those guys showed how to bat on these surfaces (on Pant, Jaiswal and Gill), you've got to be ahead and be proactive, we are playing on such pitches in the last 3-4 years, we know how to play (and play well). But this series, it didn't come off and that's going to hurt. Also, I wasn't at my best with both bat and as a captain, that's something that'll rankle me. But, we didn't perform well collectively and that's the reason for these losses," Rohit concluded.

Sara Sharif's Father "Hit Her Like Crazy", Made Her Do Sit-Ups All Night

The father of Sara Sharif, a British-Pakistani 10-year-old girl whose death sparked an international manhunt last year, forced his daughter to do sit-ups all night because she hid his keys, a court heard earlier this week. Urfan Sharif was also said to have made the little girl put her hands in the air after beating her so badly that her stepmother, Beinash Batool, feared he would break her arms and legs, The Guardian reported.

The chilling details came to light as prosecutors on Thursday read out a series of WhatsApp messages between Batool and her older sister Qandeela Saboohi from 2019 to 2013, which the court was told detailed the alleged abuse. In the text messages, Batool described the 10-year-old's father as a "psycho" who "beat the crap out of Sara". According to The Guardian, she also said that Sharif had told her to cover up the girl's bruises with makeup and sunglasses after the 10-year-old's teachers became worried that she was to be homeschooled.

Notably, Sharif, 42, his wife, Batool, 30, and brother Faisal Malik, 29, are on trial accused of carrying out a violent "campaign of abuse" before the 10-year-old was found dead at the family home in Surrey in August 2023. The three allegedly killed Sara on August 8 before fleeing to Pakistan, from where Sharif called police to say he had "beat her up too much". He had also left a handwritten "confession" near her body saying, "I swear to God that my intention was not to kill her. But I lost it".

On Thursday, the court heard how the girl was "literally beaten black" by her father, as jurors were shown pictures of inside the house where Sara was found dead. Text messages recovered from Batool's sister's phone revealed that the stepmother once told Saboohi that Sharif would "regret" it if Sara revealed he "hits her like crazy and all the bruises" before adding: "I literally have to push Urfan out the way and save Sara."

Batool also sent 10 photographs showing bruises, saying, "This is how bad he is beating her ... I feel really sorry for her, he beats the crap out of her."

On 24 January 2021, Batool told Saboohi that Sharif had "beat Sara up like crazy" and "went ballistic" with her. Describing another incident in May 2021, Batool wrote, "Urfan is going crazy beating Sara up. I'm kind of having a panic attack ... He's literally (going) to break her arm or leg, I have no idea what to do ... I'm in the other room, he's locked us out, he's not opening the door."

The following day, Batool told her sister that she wanted to report Sharif for beating "the crap out of Sara". "She's covered in bruises, literally ... black," Batool said, adding, "Poor girl can't walk, she literally fainted in the kitchen in the morning" and "he made her do sit-ups all night".

In February 2022, Batool messaged another sister, Amima Shahid, to say that Sharif was beating Sara up at home. "(If) something happens to Sara I will not be able to forgive myself," she said, per the BBC

The same year in June, Batool told her sister she was considering removing Sara from school. "Sara's body is literally bruised because Urfan beat her up, I can't even cover it up," she said. The 30-year-old also stated that Sara was beaten for being "rude and rebellious".

A few days later, Batool told Saboohi that the school was "worried" about Sara and that Sharif had been told to bring her in. Batool said: "Urfan told me to cover it (the bruises) up with make up and she's going to wear sunglasses."

In November 2022, Batool messaged the other sister, Shahid, saying that she was "too stressed to talk" and that she and Sharif had separated. Batool also said Sharif was going to Pakistan the following day, adding: "He went crazy today", and that he had taken money and a passport.

In April 2023, Batool said Sara was not eating properly and was trying to make herself vomit. In May she added that Sharif had beaten up Sara "like crazy" and said, "Her oxygen level dropped really low, she's finding it hard to stay awake ... She's breathing really rapidly."

The day before Sara died, Saboohi tried to make contact but Batool told her she was "not in the mood to speak".

Sharif, Batool and Malik, all deny murder and causing or allowing the death of a child. Jurors were previously told that Sara had been hooded, burned, bitten and beaten during more than two years of abuse. They were also told by the prosecution that the accuracy of messages sent by Batool to her sisters over a number of years was in dispute, as they only reflected what she was choosing to tell them.

The trial is ongoing.

"Chicken, Mutton After Diwali": Delivery Agent To Man Who Ordered Biryani

A man in Delhi recently ordered chicken biryani through a food delivery app but found himself at the receiving end of a moral lecture, all served fresh by the delivery agent who told him: "Chicken and mutton only after Diwali."

Expecting biryani but getting life advice, a Reddit user recounted that the delivery agent, upon dutifully delivering the order, lingered to offer up not just the OTP, but also a serving of unrequested opinion.

"What you are doing is not right," the delivery agent allegedly said in Hindi. "Eat chicken and mutton only after Diwali and consume something clean till then."

Caught off-guard, the Reddit user claimed he simply froze with a guilty smile. "What could I even say? Why does he care anyway?" was his inward lament.

The anecdote only gets juicier. After receiving the unsolicited advice, the Reddit user claimed the intervention left him wondering if his biryani might have had an unwelcome additional "ingredient" in it, courtesy of the aggrieved delivery man.

"What should I do? I have his number and name, he knows my home, if I report him he might make a scene," he wrote.

Weird shit happened today
byu/paisaagadimehngaghar indelhi

The man's post quickly went viral on Reddit, receiving over 2,000 upvotes and triggering an online debate.

"Why is he rubbing his belief on you? Ask him not to deliver chicken then!" commented one user.

"Man this was one of my biggest fears - this kind of moral policing," wrote another.

The man wrote in the comments that he took this matter up with the app's customer support team.
