प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने मुस्लिम महिलाओं के बिना ‘महरम' (पुरुष साथी) हज यात्रा करने को एक ‘बड़ा बदलाव' करार देते हुए रविवार को इसका श्रेय हज नीति में किए गए परिवर्तन को दिया. उन्होंने इन महिलाओं के लिए विशेष व्यवस्था करने के लिए सऊदी सरकार का आभार भी जताया. आकाशवाणी पर प्रसारित मासिक रेडियो कार्यक्रम ‘मन की बात' की 103वीं कड़ी में अपने विचार साझा करते हुए मोदी ने कहा कि इस बार उन्हें हज यात्रा से लौटी महिलाओं के कई पत्र भी मिले हैं, जो मन को बहुत ही संतोष देते हैं.

A rookie cop struggling to come to grips with the demands of a high-pressure job and its deleterious impact on his personal life is the central figure in Kaalkoot, an understated police procedural created by Arunabh Kumar and directed by Sumit Saxena. The eight-episode investigative drama series - it is streaming on JioCinema - is as much about an inquiry into a horrific acid attack outside a small-town college in Uttar Pradesh as about the scourge of patriarchy and putrid masculinity that infects the worldview of men charged with protecting the law.
The opening episode of Kaalkoot, has a scene in which a bunch of policemen attend a gender sensitivity training programme. A few of them make snide remarks as the session is introduced. Their laidback attitude instantly reveals why the town has seen a spate of crimes against women.
The show also factors in domestic violence, homophobia, unsafe abortions, female infanticide, cybercrime, jilted lovers, depredations of corrupt and cynical politicians and flawed policing while it depicts a probe into the circumstances in which a college girl is attacked with acid. A case of biting off too much? May be. The writing is strong enough to keep matters in check.
The story, primarily centred on the investigation, unfolds at a deliberate pace while the victim lies near-comatose in a hospital with severe burns on her face and parts of her upper body. The male protagonist's negotiations with the demons of his own mind and the entanglements that he gets into in the workplace and at home constitute another large chunk of the narrative.
Vijay Varma, in a garb that allows no room for heroic showboating, leads the charge in a measured and highly effective manner to prop up a reasonably absorbing, if a touch ponderous, show that leans heavily on the actor getting the nuances of the role right. That he does that - and a little more - is half the battle won for a series that is mindful of the necessity to be on point with its messaging.
The lead actor is ably supported by Shweta Tripathi Sharma (who spends a large part of the series in a supine and silent state), Seema Biswas, Yashpal Sharma and Gopal Datt, all perfectly in sync with the realistic drift of the story.
The screenplay by Sumit Saxena, Arunabh Kumar and Karan Singh Tyagi does not come up with big surprises and hard-hitting blows, but it does foray, directly and indirectly, into essential themes that subtly bring out the hero's struggle not to let an environment steeped in misogyny get to him and change the way he views the world.
One of the most interesting aspects of Kaalkoot, is the music. Both the background score and the songs, composed by Raghav-Arjun, lend the show an earthy, rooted feel that serves to heighten its relatability quotient even as it explores the darkness at the heart of the town.
One strand of the story centres on a woman (Suzanna Mukherjee) who SI Tripathi and his mother - especially the latter - grow close to. Marriage is on the cards between her and the ever-sceptical policeman. But as things pan out, the relationship hits hurdles that force the cop to take another hard look at himself in the mirror.
Vijay Varma dons a guise that is the exact opposite of the psychopath he played in Dahaad. He takes effortlessly to the angularities of the doubt-ridden policeman who must deal with a range of prickly issues in his quest for the truth about the acid attack - and himself.
The hero isn't a brash, bad-tempered Bollywood-style man in uniform. He is tentative, soft-spoken, anything but trigger happy, even a mamma's boy and a guy who bathes in warm water. You've got to be more virile, his superior quips. The younger cop has no riposte because he probably does not feel the need for one.
The character is believable and beset with contradictions that, at crucial junctures, stop him in his tracks. He is the kind of cop you might root for in a crunch situation even if you are not completely convinced that he has the chops to be the last man standing. His honesty shines through and yet his conduct - as also that of his colleagues - raises questions without delivering answers.
Sub-inspector Ravi Shankar Tripathi, just three months and a bit into his job and still at odds with its requirements, is one of three key personnel in the Sarsi police station of Uttar Pradesh's MacMohan Ganj. The location is fictional but the plight of the protagonist and the stories that he confronts in the course of the investigation are firmly rooted in reality.
SI Tripathi, son of an anti-establishment Hindi professor-poet who is no more, has to contend with a cynical and hard-to-please boss, SHO Jagdish Sahay (Gopal Datt), who never loses an opportunity to run him down, and a well-meaning mother (Seema Biswas), who will not pause until she has found a bride for him.
Ravi's mother is in possession of a photograph of a girl (presumably the latest in a long series of snaps that she has shown her son since he has landed a job) she wants a disinterested Ravi to marry. It turns out that this very girl is the one who has had acid thrown at her. The case is assigned to Ravi. His life from this point on gets inextricably intertwined with Parul's fate and the outcome of the investigation.
The victim, Parul Chaturvedi (Shweta Tripathi Sharma), is hospitalised with serious facial injuries. She is unable to talk. It is her parents, a younger sibling, sundry college mates and other friends who are on the investigator's radar who provide the information and insights that could help the cops solve the case.
SI Tripathi's investigation - an exercise in which his aide is Constable Sattu Yadav (Yashpal Sharma), a somewhat jaded cop who sways between cockiness and confusion - leads him to a variety of suspects and putative witnesses. But most of the trails go cold. Yadavji shadows Ravi wherever the latter goes in the line of duty - the man is both a helpful co-worker and a troublesome mole.
Since Kaalkoot, comes close on the heels of two investigative thrillers (Amazon Prime Video's Dahaad and Netflix's Kohrra) that have raised the bar for the genre, a comparative assessment is inevitable, if odious. Kaalkoot isn't in the same league, but the fact that one is able to mention it alongside the earlier two shows should itself be taken as an accolade. The series deserves its share of praise for giving the genre a veneer of freshness.
अमेरिकी केंद्रीय बैंक फेडरल रिजर्व द्वारा ब्याज दरों में उम्मीद के अनुकूल वृद्धि किए जाने के बाद विदेशी बाजारों में अमेरिकी मुद्रा में कमजोरी के रुख के बीच बृहस्पतिवार को शुरुआती कारोबार में रुपया 10 पैसे की बढ़त के साथ खुला. फॉरेक्स डीलरों ने कहा कि घरेलू शेयर बाजारों के सकारात्मक रुख तथा विदेशी कोषों के प्रवाह से रुपये की धारणा को बल मिला. हालांकि, कच्चे तेल की कीमतों में उछाल से रुपये का लाभ सीमित रहा.
अंतरबैंक विदेशी मुद्रा विनिमय बाजार में रुपया 81.92 पर खुला और फिर बढ़त के साथ 81.91 के स्तर पर पहुंच गया. यह पिछले बंद भाव की तुलना में 10 पैसे की बढ़त है. रुपया बुधवार को डॉलर के मुकाबले 82.01 के भाव पर बंद हुआ था.
इस बीच, छह प्रमुख मुद्राओं के मुकाबले अमेरिकी डॉलर की स्थिति को दर्शाने वाला डॉलर सूचकांक 0.05 प्रतिशत गिरकर 100.83 पर आ गया.
वैश्विक तेल मानक ब्रेंट क्रूड वायदा 1.03 प्रतिशत की बढ़त के साथ 83.77 डॉलर प्रति बैरल पर कारोबार कर रहा था.

The trailer of Gadar 2 released last night. The film's lead actor Sunny Deol wrote on Instagram, "Apne parivaar aur desh ke liye, ek baar phir se Gadar machayega Tara Singh (For his family and country, Tara Singh will do anything). Gadar 2, directed by Anil Sharma, is the sequel to the 2001 hit Gadar. In the sequel Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma will be reprising the roles of Tara Singh, Sakeena and Jeete, respectively. The film is slated to release on August 11 and it will clash with Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi's OMG 2 at the box office. Earlier, Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal, starring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, was also meant to release on August 11. However, the film's release date has now been moved to December.
केंद्रीय नागर विमानन मंत्री ज्योतिरादित्य सिंधिया ने मंगलवार को कहा कि पिछले कुछ साल में विमानन क्षेत्र में तेजी से वृद्धि हुई है और बेड़े का आकार 2013 में 400 विमानों से बढ़कर अब 700 हो गया है. अगले पांच साल में यह संख्या 1,500 तक बढ़ने की संभावना है. सिंधिया ने एक सम्मेलन में भाग लेते हुए छोटे विमानों के लिए उड़ान 5.2 (उड़े देश का आम नागरिक) कार्यक्रम पेश किया. इसका उद्देश्य देश के दूरदराज क्षेत्रों में हवाई संपर्क बढ़ाना है. इसके साथ ही उन्होंने सरकारी अधिकारियों से मंजूरी लेने को लेकर हेलीकॉप्टर परिचालकों के लिए मोबाइल एप्लिकेशन भी पेश किया.
मंत्री ने उड़ान 5.2 कार्यक्रम और हेली सेवा ऐप मध्य प्रदेश के खजुराहो में 5वें हेलीकॉप्टर और छोटे विमान शिखर सम्मेलन (हेली शिखर सम्मेलन 2023) और तीन उड़ान प्रशिक्षण संगठनों (एफटीओ) के उद्घाटन के दौरान पेश किये.
इस मौके पर सिंधिया ने कहा कि हमने आज छोटे विमानों के लिए उड़ान 5.2 कार्यक्रम शुरू किया. हमने 22 मार्ग आवंटित किये हैं.
हेली सेवा के बारे में मंत्री ने कहा कि यह हेलीकॉप्टर ऑपरेटरों के लिए एकल खिड़की सेवा मंच है जो मोबाइल फोन पर एटीसी (एयर ट्रैफिक कंट्रोल) से सभी मंजूरी प्राप्त करने में सक्षम होगा.
हेली शिखर सम्मेलन 2023 का आयोजन नागरिक उड्डयन मंत्रालय ने संयुक्त रूप से मध्य प्रदेश सरकार, पवन हंस लिमिटेड और उद्योग मंडल फिक्की के सहयोग से किया.
सिंधिया ने लोकप्रिय पर्यटन शहर खजुराहो में तीन एफटीओ का भी उद्घाटन किया.
इसके साथ मध्य प्रदेश में एफटीओ की संख्या छह.... खजुराहो में तीन और इंदौर, सागर और गुना में एक-एक...हो गई है.
सिंधिया ने घोषणा की कि उत्तर प्रदेश में खजुराहो और वाराणसी के बीच चौड़े आकार वाले विमान का उपयोग करके एक उड़ान जल्द ही शुरू की जाएगी. उन्होंने कहा कि खजुराहो की समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक विरासत है और इसके हवाई संपर्क का विस्तार करना हमारा संकल्प है.
मंत्री ने कहा कि मोदी सरकार ने पिछले नौ साल में विमानन क्षेत्र में तेज वृद्धि हुई है। इस अवधि के दौरान नौ हेलीपोर्ट और दो जल हवाई अड्डों सहित 148 हवाई अड्डे विकसित किए गए हैं और अगले चार साल में यह संख्या 200 तक पहुंच जाएगी.
उन्होंने कहा कि विमान बेड़े के आकार में भी 75 प्रतिशत की वृद्धि दर्ज की गई है जो 2013 में 400 हवाई जहाजों से बढ़कर अब 700 हो गई है. हम आने वाले 4 से 5 साल में इस संख्या को 1,200 से 1,500 के बीच बढ़ाने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध हैं.
Varun Dhawan, who recently featured in Nitesh Tiwari's Bawaal alongside Janhvi Kapoor, in a recent interview with Pinkvilla, opened up about his take on the controversial parts of the film which has been accused of trivialising the Holocaust. Bawaal has been criticised by film critics and audience alike for its problematic and tone-deaf plot. The film compares a troubled marriage to Hitler's regime and the concentration camps in Auschwitz. "Hum sab bhi toh thode bohot Hitler jaise hi hai na (we all are a little bit like Hitler)," Janhvi Kapoor says in the film. Without naming any film in particular, Varun Dhawan said, " I respect everyone's opinions and everyone has a right to have an opinion. Some people got triggered and sensitive about this but I don't understand where that sensitivity or the trigger goes when they watch an English film. They are allowed to do and show everything and you will find that in a correct way."
Reacting to his character in the film, Varun said, "I'm not new to criticism. My films Judwaa, Main Tera Hero and ABCD2, have been criticized which is totally cool. I respect the criticism. What I don't understand like how Sir (Nitesh Tiwari) said that it's a context and the protagonist is from Lucknow and it's showing that the character which is Ajju Bhaiya is initially a tone-deaf character."
The actor added, "This is how it has been shown and it's not showing the character as a hero but as a negative. That's why all the praise is coming for the character that a hero for the first time gets to do a negative character. So the character is supposed to be negative. So, the way Nisha (Janhvi's character) will explain him in a way that he should understand."
Bawaal showcases the story of a history teacher (Varun Dhawan), who, along with wife Nisha (Janhvi Kapoor) goes to Europe to visit World War 2 sites, which changes him and his relationship forever.
