"Please Say Sorry To Mr Gavaskar": Sarfaraz After 'Bradman' Reminder

Sarfaraz Khan's debut in the India vs England test series was one of the success stories coming out of the five-match contest. Sarfaraz Khan's long wait for an international debut made the occasion all the more special. One of the most consistent performers  in domestic circuit, Sarfaraz Khan proved that he is meant for the big stage with his good show against Ben Stokes and Co. He scored three half-centuries in five innings. 

He could have converted those into triple-figures, but he got dismissed at crucial junctures. In Dharamsala, on the second day of the fifth Test, Sarfaraz Khan fell on 56 off 60 balls. His entertaining knock consisted eight fours and one six. 

However, just when it looked like Sarfaraz was going to get a big score, he fell on the first ball of the third session to Shoaib Bashir. Sarfaraz was caught by Joe Root at slips as his late cut went wrong. Before that, Sarfaraz Khan and Devdutt Padikkal had struck a 95-plus stand. After Sarfaraz's dismissal, India lost wickets in quick succession.

Former Indian cricket team captain Sunil Gavaskar was not satisfied with the attempt by Sarfaraz Khan.

"The ball was pitched up; it wasn't short enough for that shot. Goes for it and pays the price. I mean you are playing the first ball after tea. Give yourself a little sighter. Don Bradman said to me 'Every ball that I face, even if I am on 200, I think I am on 0.' And here is [Sarfaraz] is... playing such a shot first ball of the session," Gavaskar said during commentary in JioCinema. 

There might be a reason why Sunil Gavaskar got so involved in the dismissal. The duo had a long chat on the first evening of the Test, with Gavaskar giving Sarfaraz some valuable insights. Dubai-based businessman Shyam Bhatia had set up the meeting and he told thenationalnews.com that Sarfaraz Khan was depressed after the dismissal. 

"Sunil was telling him that the most important thing is selection of shots," Shyam Bhatia said.

"It is very important. He was talking to him for around 45 minutes. Then in the match, immediately after tea he got out to a very stupid shot.

"Sunil was so angry, and asked on commentary what he was doing. The next day, Sarfaraz was with me again and said, 'Sir, please say sorry to Mr Gavaskar - I made a mistake! I won't make that mistake again.'"

Woman Ends Life After Being Trolled For Praising Jagan Reddy's Party: Cops

A 32-year-old woman died after being run over by a speeding train in Andhra Pradesh last week, the police said. 

The YSR Congress Party, the ruling party in Andhra Pradesh, alleged that the woman died by suicide after being tolled by the social media cell of the Telegu Desam Party (TDP) and the Jana Sena Party (JSP).

At a YSR Congress Party's event on March 4, Gothi Geethanjali Devi had spoken about receving a plot under the Andhra Pradesh government's 'Jagananna Housing Scheme'.

In a video that had gone viral, Geethanjali Devi had said she was a beneficiary of multiple welfare schemes of the Jagan Mohan Reddy's government. "My dream has come true today as the house site is now in my name. I am very happy as I did not expect to receive it on the stage," Geetanjali had said.

After that, she was trolled on social media, with some using derogatory words for her. 

She was admitted to the Guntur Government Hospital where she died during the treatment. 

Geetanjali is survived by two school-going daughters.

The police said she was distressed due to the vicious attacks and hence she jumped before a running train. "Unable to deal with the constant trolling, Geethanjali reportedly went to the Tenali Railway Station on March 7, and jumped in front of the Janmabhoomi Express," the police said.

Andhra Pradesh Women Commission's former chairperson Vasavi Padma said stringent action would be taken against those social media handles that targeted her.

Geetanjali had said she would vote to make Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy win. "He has fulfilled our dreams. I haven't paid any money for the plot. Instead, I received benefits such as Amma Vodi, a pension for my father-in-law, financial assistance through 'YSR Cheyutha' for my mother-in-law, and now, my dream house."

The YSR Congress Party had subsequently used her video as publicity material and posted it calling her its 'Star Campaigner of the Day'.

It's alleged that people from the TDP and JSP used a derogatory term for her - suggesting she had taken money to make laudatory statements.

The humiliating remarks on social media had reportedly left her family and Geetanjali feeling helpless and infuriated, with no way to rebut it.

A case of unnatural death has been filed and investigation is on, officials said.

Social media trolling by political parties is vicious in Andhra Pradesh and women journalists especially have been a victim of sexist and  threatening troll attacks.

इस बार भी नीट परीक्षा में भाग लेने वाले सभी उम्मीदवारों को परीक्षा केंद्र पर मेटल डिटेक्टर और अनिवार्य सुरक्षा जांच से गुजरना होगा. अभ्यर्थियों को किसी भी परिस्थिति में परीक्षा केंद्र पर किताबें, कागज, पेंसिल केस, प्लास्टिक बैग, कैलकुलेटर, पेन, रूलर, नोटबुक, यूएसबी ड्राइव, इरेज़र, इलेक्ट्रॉनिक पेन और स्कैनर जैसी चीजें लेकर जाने की मनाही है. परीक्षार्थी मोबाइल फोन, ब्लूटूथ डिवाइस, हेडफोन, माइक्रोफोन, कैमरा, पेजर और फिटनेस ट्रैकर जैसे आइटम लेकर नहीं जा सकते हैं. वहीं उन्हें बटुए, धूप का चश्मा, घड़ी, कंगन, पर्स, बेल्ट, टोपी पहनने की भी मनाही है. परीक्षार्थियों को गहने पहनने और नाश्ता, पेय पदार्थ और पानी की बोतलें को लेकर जाने पर प्रतिबंध है.

नीट 2024 ड्रेस कोड 

नीट परीक्षा में भाग लेने वाले सभी लड़के-लड़कियों के लिए खास ड्रेस कोड भी है. इस परीक्षा में उम्मीदवारों को भारी कपड़े या लंबी आस्तीन पहनने की अनुमति नहीं है. लड़की-लड़का को कम एड़ी वाले चप्पल या सैंडल पहनने की अनुमति है, लेकिन जूते की अनुमति नहीं है. यदि कोई उम्मीदवार मेडिकल रीजन या फिर धार्मिक कारणों से ड्रेस कोड फॉलो नहीं कर पाता है, तो उसे परीक्षा केंद्र पर रिपोर्टिंग टाइम से पहले पहुंचना होगा और इसके लिए एनटीए से विशिष्ट अनुमोदन प्राप्त करना होगा.

"Not Seen Such Drought In 3-4 Decades": DK Shivakumar On Bengaluru Crisis

Amid the acute water shortage in Bengaluru, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar said on Monday the State had not witnessed such a severe drought in the past three-four decades, and the next two months are "very much important." 

The administration is making all efforts to manage the crisis and supply water to the citizens, he said, adding, steps have been taken to control the water "mafia" in the city.

"In the last 30-40 years we had not seen such drought; though there was drought earlier we had never declared such a large number of taluks as drought-affected," Shivakumar told reporters here.

Shivakumar, also in-charge of Bengaluru development, said wherever Cauvery river water has to be supplied in the city, it is being done, but out of 13,900-odd borewells in Bengaluru, about 6,900 have become defunct.

"So to control the situation, we have arranged for tankers to supply water. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) are making all efforts in this regard," he added.

Karnataka has declared drought in 223 out of 240 taluks, out of which 196 are categorised as severely drought affected.

Alleging that the opposition (BJP-JD(S) combine) was trying to indulge in politics over the issue, Shivakumar said the administration has on its part made efforts to control the water "mafia", and provide water by taking it from private borewells, and also rates have been fixed based on distance travelled by the water tankers.

"A separate online system has been brought in for this and officials have been appointed to oversee this," he added.

Stating that the next two months are "very much important," Shivakumar, who is also the Water Resources Minister, said priority is to ensure that there is no wastage of water.

"(By implementing) Cauvery fifth stage (project) -- we will make all efforts to provide Cauvery water to 110 villages (around Bengaluru) at the earliest by May last week," he said.

To control the water "mafia", more than 1,500 private water tankers have registered so far and time has been extended for others also to register till March 15, Shivakumar further said. Police, Regional Transport Office (RTO), BBMP and BWSSB will monitor it and there will be a board with registration number on tankers.

"Operating illegally and charging exorbitantly Rs 5,000 or 6,000 (per tanker of water), such things are going on. To control, its price has been fixed based on the distance travelled," he noted.

In Bengaluru, Ramanagara, Magadi, Doddaballapura, Hoskote and surrounding areas, there are irrigation borewells, he said, adding that "we have taken a count of them, to draw water from there if an emergency situation arises."

Adani Group Has Rs 60,000-Crore Plan To Expand 7 Airports: Karan Adani

The Adani Group has plans to expand seven airports in the country over the next five 5-10 years with a capital expenditure of Rs 60,000 crore. The capacity of the airports managed by Adani Ports will increase up to three times by 2040, said the company's Managing Director Karan Adani on Sunday.

Out of this, Rs 30,000 crore will be spent on the 'airside' and the rest will be spent on the 'cityside' at the airports in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Mangaluru, Guwahati, Jaipur, and Thiruvananthapuram, said Adani Airports Holdings (AAHL) CEO Arun Bansal.

The 'airside' is the portion of the airport that includes arrival and departure areas, runway, control towers, and hangars. 'Cityside' refers to the area around the airport where commercial facilities are located.

Mr Adani also clarified that the Rs 18,000 crore allocated for the Phase-I development at the Navi Mumbai airport is not part of the 60,000 crore expansion plan.

A new terminal was inaugurated at the Lucknow Airport yesterday. Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Mr Adani said the airports managed by Adani Group has a capacity of 10-11 crore passengers annually, which will be increased up to three times.

"Overall, we are looking at a combined capacity of 25-30 crore annual passenger capacity by 2040," he added.

The Group does not have any firm plan to get its airport subsidiary listed and the investments will be funded through internal accruals of the Adani Enterprises Ltd, the parent company, he added.

"Saw The Comment Shardul Made": Dravid's Blunt Take On Pacer's Remarks

Indian cricket team head coach Rahul Dravid suggested that the domestic cricket scheduling should go through an 'all-round review' after players like Shardul Thakur and R Sai Kishore expressed their concerns. Shardul said that players need more breaks between the matches in order to avoid injury and his sentiments were echoed by Sai Kishore. Following India's win over England in the fifth Test match in Dharamsala, Dravid was asked about the concerns and he said that the BCCI should consult the players who are "going through the grind and putting their bodies on the line."

"I've heard the same as well. I saw some of the comments Shardul, I think, made. And in fact some of the boys who've come into the team as well, also comment about how tough the domestic schedule is, especially in a country like India with the amount of travel involved. So yeah, we need to hear the players. That's a very important thing in a lot of these things," Dravid said.

"You need to hear your players, because they are the ones going through the grind and putting their bodies on the line, and if there are enough voices saying that, then yeah, I think there's some need to look at it, and see how we can manage our schedules."

Dravid also urged the BCCI to look into the scheduling of other competitions like Duleep Trophy and Deodhar Trophy to manage the pressure on the cricketers.

"It's a long season already in India. It's tough," Dravid said. "The Ranji Trophy is a long season, and if you add a Duleep and a Deodhar on top of that...Last year, if I'm not mistaken, the Duleep started in June, it was just a month after the IPL, and your problem in this situation is your best players, the guys who are pushing for selection for India, are the ones that end up playing the most cricket. Because they keep getting selected at the next level, more and more, and their teams are the ones probably who are playing the semi-finals and the finals, or that kind of situation. They are the ones who end up playing a lot of cricket, and you also want them to be playing for India, and India A tours, and so it can get quite tough on a lot of those boys, and maybe we need to hear them out."

"Maybe we need to re-look and see whether some of the tournaments that we are conducting are necessary in this day and age or if they are not necessary. There needs to be an all-round review [involving] coaches and players, especially the guys who are part of the domestic circuit," he added.

आंवला एकादशी

पापमोचिनी एकादशी

पापमोचिनी एकादशी चैत्र माह के कृष्ण पक्ष की एकादशी को कहते हैं. यह एकादशी पापों से मुक्ति प्रदान करने वाली एकादशी है. पापमोचिनी एकादशी एकादशी का व्रत करने और विधि-विधान से भगवान विष्णु की पूजा करने से सभी पापों से मुक्ति मिल जाती है. इससे जाने अनजाने में हुई सभी गलतियों के परिणाम से मुक्ति मिलती है और दुख दर्द दूर हो जाते हैं.

देवउठनी एकादशी

कार्तिक माह के शुक्ल पक्ष को आने वाली एकादशी देवउठनी एकादशी होती है. मान्यता है कि भगवान विष्णु आषाढ़ शुक्ल एकादशी को योग निद्रा में लीन हो जाते हैं और चार माह बाद कार्तिक माह के शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी को जागते हैं. इस एकादशी से देव जागरण हो जाने के कारण मंगल कार्य फिर शुरू हो जाते हैं. इस एकादशी पर भगवान विष्णु के शालिग्राम स्वरूप की पूजा की जाती है.
