After bagging 6 wickets in the first innings, Bumrah returned to bag three in the second, in times when India were in desperate need of breaking partnerships. Rohit's Wife's Sensational Reply As MI Coach Justifies Captaincy Change

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians broke the internet as the decision to replace Rohit Sharma with Hardik Pandya as the captain of the franchise was announced. The franchise ended up losing thousands of followers on social media as fans condemned the decision. After coach Mark Boucher explained the logic behind this change in the leadership structure in a podcast, Rohit's wife Ritika took to social media to post a comment that triggered a fresh storm on the internet.

Boucher called the captaincy change decision purely a 'cricketing' one, as the franchise intended to lift some burden off Rohit's shoulders while giving Hardik the opportunity to continue growing as a captain, having already led the Gujarat Titans to two successive IPL finals.

"I think it was purely a cricketing decision. We saw the window period to get Hardik back as a player. For me it's a transition phase. A lot of people don't understand in India, people get quite emotional, but you know you take the emotions away from it. I think it's just more of a cricketing decision that was made and I do think it is going to bring the best out of Rohit as a person as a player. Just let him go out and enjoy and score some good runs," Mark Boucher said on Smash Sports podcast.

Ritika, reacting to the podcast, wrote in the comment section: "So many things wrong with this..."

Further in the podcast, Boucher said he wanted Rohit to focus more on his batting, hence decided to take away the captaincy responsibility from him, putting Hardik in the spotlight, enabling the Hitman to play freely.

"One thing I did pick up with Ro (Rohit) is that he is a fantastic guy. I mean he's been captaining for ages and he's done really well for Mumbai Indians. Now he also leads India as well. It is that he walks into a place and there's just cameras in it and he's so busy and he hasn't had probably the best couple of seasons of late with the bat but he's done well as a captain.

"I just thought you know when we're speaking with the whole Mumbai Indians group, we thought that maybe this is the opportunity for him to step as a player. We believe he got some great value to add and just go out there and actually enjoy it without the hype of being a captain," Boucher said.

"He is still going to captain India so that hype's going be there but when he steps into the IPL maybe just taking that extra bit of pressure off him as a captain an maybe we get the best out of Rohit Sharma. We want to see him playing with a smile on his face."

US Professor Fired Over Anti-Israel Rants Days After Attacking Reporter

A New York City professor who was caught on camera holding a machete to a reporter's neck has been fired for anti-Israel rants. The 47-year-old Shellyne Rodriguez in an email wrote, "Cooper Union has fired me because of a social media post I made about 'Zionists'".

Her January 23 email was shared the next day on Instagram by the Cooper Union Students for Justice in Palestine.

"This is fascism," she wrote. "Y'all are learning about it in real-time."

In her Instagram post, Rodriguez said she was fired over "public comments about 'Zionists.'"

A spokeswoman for the college told the New York Post that it does not comment on personnel matters but Rodriguez is no longer listed as an adjunct on Cooper Union's faculty page.

However, it is unclear which posts or comments led to her being fired.

Notably, Rodriguez took part in a CUNY for Palestine panel where critics claimed she made antisemitic remarks. She also posted a flyer on Instagram, promoting a pro-Israel event - edited to make it look like it was covered with cockroaches.

Former Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr was one of the event's participants. "Look at this dirty f-ing roach former Bronx borough president Ruben Diaz Jr. a Zionist lapdog," Rodriguez wrote in the caption.

The pro-Palestinian student group condemned the professor's firing as "an intense escalation of repression" that "must be resisted." "The Cooper Union wrongfully terminated a valued educator who is indispensable to the community and the academic livelihood of students," the group wrote in a letter to the administration," according to the New York Post.

However, a section of people were happy about her termination news and said it was much-needed. 

"Jewish students at Cooper Union are very relieved that they fired her," said Jeffrey Lax, a CUNY law professor and co-founder of Students and Faculty for Equality at CUNY. "Her comments were despicable."

"Normally, I would say I commend the university for taking action against this professor but in this case, how can I possibly say that? She did something far worse before they hired her. I mean, she held a knife to a reporter's neck," Lax said. "They're not to be commended, they should be ashamed of themselves."

In May last year, Rodriguez, who was then serving as an adjunct professor at Hunter College, was recorded using profanity while expressing displeasure at students who had organized a pro-life table. He asserted that their actions were causing distress to others, stating, "You're not educating anything. This is propaganda. What's next, anti-trans initiatives?" The video capturing the incident was shared online by Students for Life of America.

When a New York Post reporter arrived at her apartment for comments, she was seen holding a blade to the reporter's neck. 

She pleaded guilty to harassment and menacing in connection to the attack on the reporter, the Post reported, citing the Bronx District Attorney's Office. 

Rodriguez was sentenced in October to 13 months of behavioural therapy for menacing.

3 Myanmar Nationals Got Fake Aadhaar For Human Trafficking: NIA

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today filed a chargesheet against three Myanmar nationals in a major international human trafficking case involving illegal infiltration and trafficking of foreign nationals, primarily of Rohingya origin, into India across the India-Bangladesh border.

The accused have been identified as Rabiul Islam, Sofi Alom, and Mohammad Usman. They are all permanent residents of Myanmar's Maungdaw district, the NIA said in a statement.

The NIA said they came to India illegally without travel documents in collusion with traffickers and touts. They were also involved in helping numerous other foreign nationals to infiltrate India and use unauthorised and illegal border routes, the NIA said in the chargesheet.

It is a part of a well-organised network of traffickers and touts involved in illegal activities. They were engaged in luring vulnerable Rohingya women, who had taken refuge in Bangladesh, into India on the false promises of marriage to Rohingya men, the NIA said.

The women were then sold for forced marriages in states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jammu and Kashmir, Telangana, Haryana, etc, the NIA said.

The NIA investigation uncovered instances and evidence of document forgery, and found that Rabi Islam and Mohammad Usman got Aadhaar cards fraudulently. They used these cards to buy multiple SIM cards and open bank accounts, further concealing their true identities.

With this chargesheet, the NIA, which had started probing the case on November 7, 2023, has taken a significant step towards uncovering and dismantling a major international human trafficking racket and network.

If there is a place on Earth from where everything seems small, then it has to be Mount Everest, the tallest mountain peak in the world. Now, familiarising us with the beauty of the mountain, a video showing a 360-degree view from the top of Mount Everest has surfaced on social media and left users in awe. The clip, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @historyinmemes, gives an unprecedented glimpse of the treacherous terrain of the mountain. It shows snow-capped peaks along with a team of skilled mountaineers. 

"A 360-degree camera view from the top of Mt Everest," the X user captioned the post, which has amassed more than 35 million views and over 220,000 likes.

Many Twitter users seemed captivated by the glory of Mount Everest. In the comments section, while some praised the mountaineers' courage, others wrote about the dangers and challenges that climbers face on the world's tallest mountain peak. 

"Top of the world! Thankful for God's creation!" wrote one user. "I've always had this fascination with Everest. I've read about and seen practically everything out there. This is incredible," commented another. 

"Gees that's interesting!! Looks like u could fall easily and not much room up there for the people coming up," expressed a third user. "Yikes!  The weird fisheye lens effect makes it seem like the top of Mt. Everest is about one square foot.  Amazing, out of this world, and feeding my acrophobia," added another.

Meanwhile, speaking of Mount Everest, last week, a 2-year-old from Scotland became the youngest person to reach Mount Everest base camp. Carter Dallas climbed to the south side of Nepal, at an altitude of 17,598 feet above sea level, on his father Ross' back. The toddler's mother Jade walked alongside the duo. It is believed that the 2-year-old has broken the world record previously held by four-year-old Zara from the Czech Republic.

The family is hoping that Carter's world record is confirmed. The current record holder is Zara who made the 170-mile (274 km) journey to the base camp. Before her, the world record for the youngest person to reach Mount Everest base camp was held by Prisha Lokesh Nikajoo, who was only five years old when she made the climb in 2023.

Priyanka-Nick Move Out Of Now "Unlivable" $20 Million LA Home: Report

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas were forced to move out of their Los Angeles home after water damage led to a mold infestation. As per a Page Six report, the couple's lavish California mansion, which they bought in September 2019 for $20 million, has become “virtually unlivable”. The report added that the home's water leak problem has made the premises “dangerous from a health perspective to occupy”. The lawsuit, which was filed in May 2023 and exclusively obtained by Page Six, stated that in April 2020, the pool and spa began to present a series of issues, including “porous waterproofing” that “fostered mould contamination and related issues.”

The luxury property has seven bedrooms along with nine bathrooms, a chef's kitchen and a temperature-controlled wine room, the report added. In addition, it also includes an indoor basketball court, an interior bowling alley, a home theatre, an entertainment lounge, a spa with steam shower, a full-service gym and a billiards room.

The report cited the complaint as stating, “At or about the same time, a water leak appeared at the barbecue area on the deck. This leak damaged a portion of the interior living area immediately below the deck. This has resulted in substantial and significant damage along with a failure of consideration which requires that the purchase and sale be rescinded.”

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are now seeking “consequential damages”, via their trustee, the report said. 

“In the alternative, plaintiff should be reimbursed for all costs of repair, plus compensation for the loss of use and other damages caused by defendants' conduct,” the celebrity couple's attorney was quoted as saying.

While the extra costs haven't been finalised yet, the complaint filed by the couple mentioned that the waterproofing issues “will exceed” $1.5 million. The cost of “general damages” is estimated at $2.5 million (roughly).

In the meantime, Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas have moved out with their 2-year-old daughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas. 

Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra on Thursday shared a video of what appears to be her temporary abode. In the clip, which she shared on her Instagram Stories, Priyanka revealed that she's enjoying a rainy day.In the clip, we can see a lush green view from a massive window. "Farewell Budget": Opposition Reacts To Nirmala Sitharaman's Interim Budget

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman promised economic reforms to drive growth in a speech on the government's budget on Thursday, the last before a national election due by May. The Opposition, however, has termed it the "vidai (farewell) budget".

"If any budget is not for development and any development is not for the people then it is useless. The BJP government has created a shameful record by completing a decade of anti-people budgets, which will never be broken again because now is the time for a positive government to come. This is BJP's 'farewell budget'," Akhilesh Yadav posted on X in Hindi.

The Finance Minister underlined that the government is working to make India a developed country by 2047, adding that it works on the principle of 'reform, perform, and transform'.

The interim budget is to meet the central government's essential expenditure for the first four months of the new fiscal year that starts in April.

"The Modi government presented its last budget. Want to thank the finance minister because she did it with a very heavy heart and presented the last budget," said Uddhav Thackeray addressing party workers in Raigad district.

Priyanka Chaturvedi, of Uddhav Thackeray faction, taking her cue from the cold weather said the Finance Minister poured "cold water" on people's expectations.

"All I can say is that in this cold weather, what the Finance Minister has done, she has poured cold water over the expectations of the people of this country," said Priyanka Chaturvedi, leader Shiv Sena (UBT).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a televised address following the budget, said it will empower the four pillars of developed India, namely the young, poor, women and farmers.

"This is a budget of creating India's future," the Prime Minister said, adding that it is a reflection of the young aspirations of a young India.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Congress' leader in the Lok Sabha, said the budget only aims to woo people ahead of polls. 

"Is this a budget to provide employment to the unemployed... This budget is nothing but to woo people in this year's Lok Sabha elections," said Mr Chowdhury. 

"The Finance Minister took a long time to hail praises but delivery was zero. They are going to present a white paper on the previous government... Nothing much has happened in the last 10 years. The people of the country are already disappointed. Moreover, you realise that performance incentives are given to the bridge companies, and not going to the deserving ones. People are rejected with this budget," said DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran.

"Mere administrative exercise to ensure that the government of India has the requisite funds to carry on its normal business until the new parliament is constituted and a new government is formed. And that's what they have done, except for making their obligatory self-congratulatory, self-praise phrases, nothing else is there and nothing should have been there, and rightly so. Nothing is there," said Congress MP Karti Chidambaram.
