Box Office: Hrithik-Deepika's Fighter "Shocks India, Rocks Overseas"

The weekday business of Fighter, which released last week, is something of a "paradox," in trade analyst Taran Adarsh's words. Fighter, which stars Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone as air force officers, has seen a sharp drop in domestic box office numbers – "the dwindling numbers in India are a complete shocker," per Mr Adarsh. However, the film is doing well abroad; USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand have posted strong weekday figures after an "excellent weekend" of business. "How does one explain this paradox," Taran Adarsh asked in his post on the numbers.

Fighter's domestic box office total after six days on screens is Rs 134 crore, as reported by Sacnilk. This week, daily collections fell to single digits – Rs 8 crore on Monday and Rs 7.5 crore yesterday – as compared to Sunday's total of Rs 29 crore.

"Fighter shocks India, rocks overseas. The underperformance of Fighter has sent shock waves within the industry. Imagine, the film ticks all the boxes - right from star names and director's credentials to tremendous critical acclaim and positive audience feedback. Yet, the dwindling numbers in India are a complete shocker. To face a setback at the very start of the year is indeed worrisome," posted Taran Adarsh.

He continued: "Having said that, while the numbers are witnessing a downward trend in India, the biz in key international markets continue to be strong, even on weekdays. Markets like USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are still holding fort, even after an excellent weekend. How does one explain this paradox?"

Read Taran Adarsh's post here:

He's not the only expert taken aback by the unimpressive numbers of the year's first big film. "It's disappointing to see Fighter drop on Monday. This is a film that deserved to be a success. Surprised that audiences have not stepped in, even though Friday was particularly good," wrote trade analyst Joginder Tuteja – read his full post here:

Fighter, directed by Siddharth Anand, also stars Anil Kapoor, Karan Singh Grover and Akshay Oberoi in pivotal roles.

Viral Video Of Rinku's Father Delivering LPG Cylinders Breaks The Internet

Since making his India debut last year, Rinku Singh has taken international cricket by storm. After enjoying a breakthrough season with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Rinku was rewarded with a India call-up last year. Across 15 games and 11 innings in T20Is for India, Rinku has scored 356 runs at an average of 89.00 and a strike rate of over 176 with two half-centuries. Rinku has become the talk of town once again after a viral video captured his father, Khanchand Singh, delivering LPG cylinders in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh.

In the video, Khanchand can be seen loading LPG cylinders in a small truck.

This comes after Rinku revealed that his father refused to give up his job, despite his success in cricket.

"I told my father to relax now as we have enough for him not to haul cylinders, but he still does it and loves his job," he was quoted by Free Press Journal as saying.

The cricketer added, "If someone has worked all his life, it is difficult to tell him to stop unless he wants it."

Rinku, who was born in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, has been retained by KKR for Rs 55 lakh ahead of IPL 2024. He was first acquired by KKR in 2018 for INR 80 lakh. Even though the first season didn't turn out to be great, his potential was considered and he was retained for IPL 2019 as well.

Recently, former South Africa captain AB de Villiers hailed Rinku, saying that the batter is a match-winner and his consistency is needed to win the games.

Talking about Rinku on his Youtube Channel, AB said, "Rinku is a fantastic player, a match-winner, and it is good to see him become consistent as well. You need to be a consistent player who is always trying to win games for your team."

As Nitish Kumar Flip-Flops Again, Here's What He Said After Every Switch

As JDU leader Nitish Kumar parts ways with the RJD and returns to the NDA fold, his fifth flip-flop in a decade, his statements after every jump across the political aisle have started doing the rounds.

Mr Kumar resigned as Bihar Chief Minister this morning and then staked claim to form a new government with the BJP as his ally. The swearing-in, likely this evening, will mark the beginning of Mr Kumar's ninth term as Chief Minister.

Here's what Nitish Kumar said after every switch:

2024

In his first remarks after the resignation, Mr Kumar said, "I had quit an earlier alliance for a new tie-up. But the situation was not okay. So I have resigned. I was facing difficulties in working with this alliance. When I explained this to party members, they advised me to resign," he told the media.

He also referred to the INDIA alliance and how things were not moving. "I got an alliance forged, but nobody was doing anything," he said, in an apparent reference to the Opposition bloc that aims to take on the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls this year.

In what appeared to be a swipe at estranged ally RJD, he said, "People were claiming that they are doing all the work."

2022

A year-old video of Nitish Kumar started doing the rounds over the past couple of days as buzz of the impending reversal echoed through corridors of power. Months after he walked out of the alliance with the BJP in August 2022, Mr Kumar had told the media, "The question does not I would prefer to die rather than go with them (BJP).

In the video that has now gone viral, his former Deputy Chief Minister and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav is seen next to him. Mr Kumar had then said his decision to revive his alliance with the BJP was a "mistake".

"Listen carefully. They (BJP) went through so much effort. They slapped cases against Tejashwi and his father to get me on board. Now again, they are trying to get after them. These people keep doing such things," he had said.

2017

Two years after the Mahagathbandhan of JDU, RJD and Congress pulled off a thumping win in the Bihar polls, Mr Kumar walked out of the alliance pointing to corruption charges against then Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav and his family members.

"It wouldn't be right if I didn't take a stand, I don't do politics of this kind. I felt suffocated, my conscience pricked me. there was no other way," Mr Kumar, once known for his clean image, had then told the media. In another statement, in which he did not name any party but was apparently targeting RJD, he had said, "Many JD(U) MLAs were being lured to defect from the party. My MLAs refused all allurements and told me who came with huge offers to them."

2013

Mr Kumar's 2013 exit from the NDA, after a 17-year-old alliance, was the first in his series of flip-flops. The bone of contention then was the BJP's choice of Narendra Modi as its face for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

"Our parting ways from the NDA is the BJP's failure. You created a situation in which the old allies walked away. An alliance does not run under compulsion. If any party wants to form a government, the responsibility is of that party to get the support of other parties if it is not in a position to get the numbers for it on its own. And here an old ally was forced to leave," Mr Kumar had said.

Exclusive: Narayana Murthy Was Asked Why He Cleans His Toilets. His Reply

Infosys founder Narayana Murthy today opened up about cleaning his own toilets, which he sees as a matter of principle, in an exclusive interview with NDTV. He also spoke about how he convinced his children when they asked him why he chose to clean his own toilets.

"I would explain to my children gently and affectionately that these are the best ways of respecting other people. In our society, people always feel that those who clean their own toilets are looked down upon. Therefore, I would tell them that look, nobody is less than us," Mr Murthy said.

"My children are very curious. They observe and have a lot of questions. I would tell them that look, nobody is less than us. It so happened that we have been put into a very advantageous situation by God," he said.

Elaborating further, the tech billionaire explained his conversation with children about cleaning his own toilets which in India is still seen as taboo, especially in rich families.

"We cannot take that as our right, we cannot take it with a sense of arrogance, therefore, to the extent possible, we should try and do thing that will give us a sense that we are trying to be as fair to the society as possible," the 78-year-old billionaire told NDTV.

He also said both his children are very understanding, adding that they all were very curious, bright, and inquisitive.

On Joining Politics

Mr Murthy categorically denied any plans of joining politics as the 78-year-old industrialist believes he's too old for that now.

"I think I'm too old for any of that. I'm now 78," Mr Murthy said when asked if he would now consider a career in politics.

Elaborating on his plans, he said that he now plans to spend time with his children and his grandchildren. He also plans to enjoy music and read up on a variety of topics ranging from physics to economics.

Author and philanthropist Sudha Murty, Mr Murthy's wife, also said that she does not need to join politics to serve the public.

Review: Karmma Calling - Heavy Lifting Is Left To Raveena Tandon

A murder on the beach shakes the swish set of Alibaug out of its self-obsessed stupor. Posited as both a preface and the probable final act of Karmma Calling, a seven-part Hotstar Specials series, the prelude points to what lies ahead for the denizens of the seaside enclave of the rich and the callously amoral.

A young woman with vengeance on her mind is on the prowl. The girl's prime target is a 1990s Bollywood diva-turned-socialite and her family. Protecting her turf comes easy to the obdurate matriarch. On the personal front, however, life isn't smooth sailing for her. Her husband strays and gets away with it. Her children do not see eye to eye with her.

As life goes on in the neighbourhood, dark secrets, pent-up rage, extra-marital liaisons, crass conspiracies, fake friendships and brazen betrayals come to the fore and upset a carefully constructed facade. The plot, busy and overheated, has momentum.

Karmma Calling moves back and forth in time to provide the context for the tale of vendetta. But it never quite shakes off its unremarkable by-the-numbers approach to a tale that has been told before.

In each episode, the revenge-seeker focuses her attention on an individual who - there is a whole bunch of them - wronged her and her upright dad two decades ago and went unpunished. She is now back to settle scores.

On her toes and unyielding, the lady is meticulous in her planning. More often than not, she catches her victims unawares and achieves her end. But despite the plethora of twists and turns that Karmma Calling throws at us, the show, adapted for India (from the American series Revenge) and directed by Ruchi Narain, is anything but an edge-of-the-seat humdinger.

The revenge that Karmma Calling served is cold - and stale. The picture-perfect setting and the glammed-up people who inhabit the space are overly inert when they aren't outright stodgy and dull. That is not to say that the show is wearisome all the way. It does spring to a bit of life now and then, but the truly intriguing, impactful moments do not last long enough to lend heft to the series.

An engagement party is disrupted when the man of the hour goes missing. He is found lifeless on a beach. Cut to six months earlier. The comely Karma Talwar (Namrata Sheth) rents and then buys an Alibaug bungalow next to the town's most famous address, Kothari Mansion.

The mansion is where Indrani Kothari (Raveena Tandon) lives with her perfidious husband Kaushal (Gaurav Sharma), Harvard-returned son Ahaan (Varun Sood) and restive daughter Mira (debutante Devangshi Sen).

The Kotharis are ruthless power players hand in gloves with other moneyed manipulators of their ilk. But all isn't obviously well in the household. Karma spots an opportunity in the deepening strife and looks for a vantage point from where she can launch her mission to bring down Indrani Kothari's family and business empire.

Private jets and ostentatious houses, charity galas and polo matches, intimate family dinners and flashy dandiya nights are an integral part of Indrani Kothari's life. The sudden appearance of the mysterious Karma Talwar puts her on her guard.

The family's head of security, Sameer (Vikramjeet Virk), and Indrani's assistant Yana (Amy Aela), are the wary lady's go-to people as she tries to figure out what has brought Karma Talwar to Alibaug. The audience obviously knows what she is up to so we are always a step ahead of the characters.

Karma's father (Rohit Bose Roy in a special appearance) was a senior employee of the company owned by the Kotharis. Framed in a bank loan scam that he had no hand in, his life and career were ruined. Justice for him is what his daughter now seeks.

All manner of people - a top lawyer-turned-MP (Shataf Figar) who aspires to be India's law minister, a healer (Alpana Buch) who runs a shady trust that receives donations from the Kotharis, Indrani's best friend Dolly Bhatia (Waluscha De Sousa) and, of course, Indrani's immediate family - are in Karma's line of fire.

Indrani and Kaushal's marriage hangs by a thread, their son has no patience for his mother's ways, and the daughter is a rebel determined not to play by the rules her mom sets. The two Kothari scions spark many a crisis as they seek to dismantle the social barriers that prevent them from venturing forth into the world and doing their own thing.

Karma schemes incessantly. She receives help, most of it unsolicited, from flamboyant entrepreneur Zane Khan (Viraf Patell). The man has links with her unhappy past. So does cafe owner Vedant Koli (debutant Rachit Singh). With neither of the two men is Karma's relationship easy.

As Karma and Ahaan drift into a tentative relationship, trouble mounts for the Kotharis and their acquaintances. The revenge-seeker's acts often threaten to recoil on her. But she is determined not to be deflected from her path.

It isn't a cakewalk. The woman Karma is up against is a formidable adversary not given to half measures. That apart, the latter's right-hand man is ready to go to any length to protect his boss. The battle of attrition between the two women serves the purpose of driving the series forward.

But as Karmma Calling darts from one thing to another, it frequently flounders and loses its way. Over-explication of character motives and plot points blunts the edge of the tale and pushes the series into a rather jaded loop.

In her second web series, Raveena Tandon is the pivot. She does not stop trying to hold Karmma Calling together but finds little significant support from the rest of the cast.

What most of the actors, including Namrata Sheth, who plays the show's principal character, bring to the table is nothing to write home about. They are adequate at best as they wait and wait for a miracle to occur and amp up the proceedings. Since that never happens, all the heavy lifting is left to Raveena Tandon. It weighs her - and the series - down.

Explained: Rule That Forced Umpire To Reduce 1 Run From England's Total

A big confusion unfolded on Day 1 of the first Test between India and England in Hyderabad after Rehan Ahmed saw a run's deduction to his tally. The England batter, despite running a double before the overthrow from an Indian fielder, saw only 5 runs being awarded instead of 6, leaving fans in the stadium and on social media confused. However, the decision was correct because of the rule that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has for such scenarios.

India pacer Jasprit Bumrah bowled a full toss on the pads and it was flicked behind square on the on-side by Rehan. The throw from the fielder was a wide one and it beat the backup fielder and went straight to the boundary.

Initially, 6 runs were awarded to Rehan but the umpire reversed his decision and said only 5 runs would be given as the two batters hadn't crossed each other when the throw left the hand of the fielder.

The rule was seriously looked upon after a similar incident took place in the England vs New Zealand ODI World Cup final 2019. In that instance, England were given 6 runs instead of 5 even though the two batters hadn't crossed each other.

What does the rule say?

MCC rule 19.8 is applicable on the matter. It says:

19.8 Overthrow or wilful act of fielder

  • If the boundary results from an overthrow or from the wilful act of a fielder, the runs scored shall be
  • any runs for penalties awarded to either side
  • and the allowance for the boundary
  • and the runs completed by the batters, together with the run in progress if they had
  • already crossed at the instant of the throw or act.

Harsha Bhogle, the commentator during the incident on Day 1 of the first Test, explained the matter on-air while also reminding former England captain Eoin Morgan of what was the case in the 2019 ODI World Cup, contrary to the scenario that unfolded in Hyderabad.

Woman Detained After Human Head, Body Parts Found Inside Freezer In US

A woman in Brooklyn, Heather Stines, 45, has been taken into custody following the discovery of a man's severed head and other body parts in a taped-up freezer at a Brooklyn apartment. The police made the grim finding around 6:15 am (local time) on Monday. The authorities arrived at the fourth-floor apartment after acting on a tip suggesting a body might be "stored" in the house, reported the NY Post.

New York Police Department Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said, “During the course of patrol's investigation, they came across some body parts in the freezer. At this point we're trying to identify that person,” adding, “We have a head. We have some limbs. As of right now, it seems like we have the whole body.”

The refrigerator was reportedly taped-up and sealed shut to prevent the odour from escaping. Mr Kenny revealed that the identification process is underway, and a post-mortem examination will be conducted by doctors to determine the precise cause of death.

Heather Stines' 79-year-old aunt, Amy Stines, said, "Oh God, I just can't fathom this.” She shared that her niece had struggled with drug problems and moved away from Kentucky years ago to escape them. Now, Heather Stines lives with her husband in a Brooklyn apartment, earning money by cleaning, the aunt added. Amy Stines had reportedly tried reaching out to her niece on Sunday but had received no response.

Heather Stines' husband, Nicholas McGee, has been in a Virginia jail since September, facing charges related to attempting to cash a fraudulent check. Mr McGee was due to appear in court Tuesday morning, his sister-in-law Catherine McGee said. She told Daily Mail that the couple are both drug abusers, who had used heroin and crack, and had been arrested multiple times. She said Heather relapsed a “year or two” ago after learning that one of her daughters had died of a drug overdose. “He's going to be f**king devastated because he's coming out of jail and she's possibly going into jail, for a possible murder,” she said.

Currently, Ms Stines is admitted to the hospital due to reported illness. As of Tuesday afternoon, investigators have been unable to interview her as she continues to receive medical attention. She has not been charged yet.

What Makes Ram Lalla's Idol Extraordinary? Government Explains

The idol of Ram Lalla was consecrated on January 22 in a grand ceremony led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said it marked the advent of a new era. As soon as the temple opened to the public, a huge rush of devotees was witnessed outside the complex as people beat the severe cold to catch a glimpse of Ram Lalla. Meanwhile, social media is also buzzing with excitement as people are sharing their unique perspectives and experiences with this momentous occasion.

Amid this, MyGovIndia, the citizen engagement platform of the Government of India, took to X to share a post on what makes Ram Lalla's idol ''extraordinary''. In a thread on X, the government enlisted several unique features and remarkable facts about the sacred idol.

The post was captioned as ''22 January marked a historic moment as PM @narendramodi performed the Pran Pratishtha of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya. Ever wondered what makes Ram Lalla's idol extraordinary?''

See the post here:

''Sunlight Blesses Ram Lalla's Idol on Ram Navami! Every Ram Navami at noon, mirrors and lenses systems align to focus sunlight on Ram Lalla's idol's forehead. An eco-friendly spectacle with no electricity or batteries needed,'' the first tweet in the thread read.

The government further said Ram Lalla's idol has Lord Vishnu's ten avatars and it is carved from 2.5 billion-year-old black granite. ''A majestic portrayal showcasing the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu. Additionally, adorned with Hanuman on one side and Garuda on the other,'' the second tweet stated.

The Sun at the center of the idol's crown symbolises the Suryavanshi logo, the government added.

''Ram Lalla's tilak boasts a central 3-carat natural diamond, surrounded by smaller diamonds totaling approximately 10 carats. Natural Burmese rubies are used to adorn the Ajana Chakra,'' the government explained.

The government also gave a shoutout to Mysuru-based sculptor Arun Yogiraj who carved the idol out of a three billion-year-old rock. ''A legacy spanning five generations in the art of sculpting, Arun is renowned for crafting a 30-foot statue of Subhas Chandra Bose in New Delhi and a 12-foot tall statue of Adi Shankaracharya in Kedarnath,'' the post concluded.

The idol is adorned in Banarasi fabric, featuring a yellow dhoti and a red 'pataka' or 'angavastram'. The 'angavastram' are embellished in pure gold 'zari' and threads, featuring auspicious Vaishnav symbols -- 'shankh', 'padma', 'chakra' and 'mayur'.

While the ornaments have been crafted by Ankur Anand's Lucknow-based Harsahaimal Shiamlal Jewellers, the garments were created by Delhi-based textile designer Manish Tripathi, who worked from Ayodhya Dham for the project.

Air India Fined Rs 1.1 Crore By Aviation Regulator For Safety Violations

Air India has been fined over a crore over safety-related violations on flights operated on certain long-range terrain critical routes, the country's aviation regulator said today. The case pertains to leased aircraft not following performance limits laid down by the manufacturer.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said it opened a probe after an airline employee voluntarily flagged the violations. The probe revealed "non-compliance by the airline", prompting a show cause notice to the airline, and ultimately the penalty.

"Pursuant to the receipt of a voluntary safety report from an airline employee alleging safety violations of flights operated by M/s Air India on certain long range terrain critical routes, DGCA conducted a comprehensive investigation into the alleged violations," the watchdog said.

Based on the airline's response to its notice, the DGCA imposed Rs 1.1 crore fine on Air India.

"Since the said operations of the leased aircraft were not in line with regulatory/ OEM performance limits, DGCA has initiated enforcement action and imposed a penalty of Rs. 1.10 crore on M/s Air India," read the press note.

This is the second time in a week that Air India faced penalties by the DGCA. Last Thursday, Air India was fined Rs 30 lakh for poor preparedness leading to fog delays.

He has been has been called for questioning on Thursday.

Mahua Moitra was expelled from the Lok Sabha last month following an Ethics Committee report into the 'cash for query' charges against her.

Ms Moitra, 49, was accused of taking bribes, including Rs 2 crore in cash and "luxury gift items", from businessman Darshan Hiranandani, in exchange for asking questions critical of the government in Parliament.

The panel had suggested cancelling Ms Moitra's Lok Sabha membership, finding her actions "highly objectionable, unethical, heinous and criminal".

Briefcase To 'Bahi Khata': How Budget Presentation Changed Over The Years

For decades, finance ministers have been photographed carrying a briefcase into Parliament for the presentation of the Union Budget. The year 2019 marked a big shift when Nirmala Sitharaman ditched this practice for a 'bahi khata'. She then opted for a paperless format in 2021 by using a 'Made in India' tablet. The journey of the presentation of the Union Budget from briefcase to a completely paperless mode is quite fascinating.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is all set to present the Interim Budget for FY 2024-25 on February 1. A full-fledged Budget will be presented after the formation of the new government following the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

In 2019, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, while holding the additional charge of the Ministry of Finance, presented the last interim Budget. Ms Sitharaman presented her maiden Budget on July 5, 2019, after assuming charge as the finance minister following the Narendra Modi-led government's second consecutive win in the general elections.

Ahead of the Budget 2024, let's take a look at the history behind the Union Budget presentation exercise:

Briefcase

RK Shanmukham Chetty, the first Finance Minister of independent India, continued with the British-era tradition by carrying the documents related to the first Union Budget in a leather portfolio bag. This tradition continued for the next few years as the finance ministers used different briefcases for the Budget ceremony.

With time, this practice evolved as per the needs. In the 1970s, finance ministers had started carrying a hardbound bag – the colour of which continued to change over the years.

This 'budget briefcase' was a remnant of the colonial era and similar to the Gladstone Box, named after the former British Chancellor of the Exchequer, William Ewart Gladstone.

‘Bahi Khata'

The old 'budget briefcase' was replaced with the 'bahi khata' soon after the Narendra Modi-led government secured a second consecutive term.

During her first Budget, Finance Minister Sitharaman drew the nation's attention by carrying a red-coloured ‘bahi khata' in 2019, instead of the briefcase. The reason behind this appeared to be the renunciation of the colonial legacy.

Her decision to use the 'bahi khata' gave an Indian touch to the budgetary exercise as it has been used by business owners for decades to maintain their accounts.

Back then, FM Sitharaman said that it was "easier" to carry the 'bahi khata' and it was "very Indian".

Tablet

In 2021, the traditional 'bahi khata' gave way to a more modern device as FM Sitharaman presented the Budget in a paperless format, using a 'Made in India' tablet.

This move was also in tandem with Prime Minister Modi's push for a 'Digital India'. This was also the first Budget presentation since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ms Sitharaman carried the tablet in a red 'bahi khata'-style pouch in 2021 and continued this practice in 2022 and 2023.

This year too, the Finance Minister is expected to present Budget 2024 in paperless format.

ICC ODI Team Of Year: Rohit Named Captain, Kohli Among 6 Indians Included

Rohit Sharma was on Tuesday named captain of the ICC ODI Team of the Year, which featured five other Indians including star batter Virat Kohli and the pace duo of Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj. The team mostly included the World Cup finalists -- India (runner-up) and Australia (winner) -- besides players from semi-finalists New Zealand and South Africa, the ICC said in a statement. The top order includes openers Rohit and Shubman Gill. While the Indian captain accumulated 1,255 runs at an average of 52 last year, the latter struck a brilliant 208 against the Kiwis and also finished as the highest run-scorer (1,584) in the format.

At number three was Travis Head, who was consistent throughout the year and performed exceptionally well during the global event, with his 137 in the final being the highlight.

The middle order comprised Indian stalwart Kohli, followed by Daryl Mitchell, Heinrich Klaasen and Marco Jansen.

Kohli finished as the second-highest run-scorer of the year in ODIs (1,337) and slammed six centuries during the year. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record of most international tons, besides winning the Player of the Tournament award during the World Cup.

Mitchell scored five centuries and accumulated 1,204 runs at an average of 52.34 and a strike rate of 100.24.

Klaasen too dominated the whole year with the bat, with his highlight being the match-winning 174 versus Australia in Centurion.

The bowling attack was made up of Australian Adam Zampa along with the Indian trio of Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami.

Zampa took 38 wickets in the entire year at an average of 26.31 and also fetched a four-for in three successive World Cup fixtures, besides finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker in the competition.

The cricketer who was previously married to Indian tennis star, Sania, with whom he has a son, released a photograph on a social media platform with his new wife, with the words "And We created you in pairs". There have been strong rumours since 2022 about differences between Shoaib and Sania leading to a split, and they have rarely been seen together in the last couple of years.

Just a few days back Malik also unfollowed the Indian star on Instagram.

"Can Anyone Be More Corrupt Than Gandhis": Himanta Biswa Sarma

As the Congress continued to target Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma with corruption allegations during its 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' in the state, the BJP leader hit back on Saturday, maintaining that no one can be "more corrupt" than the Gandhis.

Mr Sarma has been called the "most corrupt CM in the country" at several public gatherings over the last two days by Rahul Gandhi, who is leading the Yatra that is on its third day in the state.

"Anything abusive, that comes from the so-called Gandhi family, I consider it as a blessing. Because this gives me the energy to fight against a family which considers itself to be the most powerful," Mr Sarma posted in X.

He also said, "But I want to ask only one thing, can anyone be more corrupt than the Gandhis? - Bofors Scam, National Herald Scam, Bhopal Gas Tragedy, the escape of Anderson, 2G scam, Coal Scam, etc (the list is huge and it goes on & on)".

Mr Gandhi had claimed that Mr Sarma can "give lessons" to chief ministers of other BJP-ruled states on "how to indulge in corruption".

Mr Sarma had countered the allegations on Thursday also, the first day of the Yatra in Assam, by terming the Gandhi family as being "most corrupt" and using a "duplicate" surname.

Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi addressing a press conference at Majuli as part of the Yatra on Friday, had alleged that corruption was being focused on in the state as it was the "core issue" for the people of the state.

The Yatra will travel through Assam till January 25, travelling a total of 833 km across 17 districts.

Explained: What Ankita Lokhande, Vicky Jain's Parents Said About Sushant

Actress Ankita Lokhande, best known for her iconic role as Archana in the TV show Pavitra Rishta, is one of the top contenders for the Bigg Boss trophy this season. However, the actress' journey in the Bigg Boss house has been anything but smooth, compounded only by the fact that her husband, businessman Vicky Jain entered the show with her as a fellow contestant. The constant arguments between the couple during the show have trained the lens on their marriage. In a special move, the makers also brought Ankita and Vicky's mothers on the show for an intervention. While their marriage has been the subject of numerous social media posts and Reddit threads, one aspect of Ankita's past that has grabbed headlines since her entry on the show is her relationship with late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Ankita has often been spotted referring to their relationship, their breakup and even his controversial death. For context, Ankita Lokhande and Sushant Singh Rajput were in a relationship for seven years before breaking up in 2016. Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his residence in Mumbai in June 2020.

This, in turn, has led to Ankita's mother, Vandana Lokhande and Vicky's mother, Ranjana Jain, also speaking about the late actor. The Internet has been largely divided on Ankita's choice to talk about her past relationship while on the show with her husband. While one section deems it her right to speak about all aspects of her life, several viewers have accused Ankita of using Sushant's anecdotes for sympathy, a belief shared by Vicky's mother as well.

Here's a deep dive into what Ankita Lokhande, Vicky Jain and their family members have said about Sushant Singh Rajput on Bigg Boss.

Ankita Lokhande

Ankita Lokhande has been quite vocal about her relationship and subsequent breakup with Sushant Singh Rajput. Speaking to fellow contestant Munawar about their breakup, she said early in the show, “There was no reason [for the breakup]. And I was blank. Ek raat main cheezay palti hain. Woh [Sushant Singh Rajput] ek dum ek raat mein gayab ho gaya. Success mil rahi thi toh log uske kaan bhar rahe the. Mainay usko kabhi roka bhi nahi.. But theek hai. Woh uska matter tha.[Things changed in a night. Sushant Singh Rajput suddenly disappeared. He was getting success so people were trying to manipulate him. But it's okay. It was his call. I didn't say much.]”

She also spoke about the lack of support on social media after their breakup.Tab toh koi nahi tha na mere sath. Woh phase mainay akele guzara. Tab logonay kyun nahi kaha ki aapko Ankita ke sath rehna chahiye. Kaha thay log. Mainay toh woh phase akele guzara na. [Why didn't people come out and say that he [Sushant Singh Rajput] should have stayed with me? No one was there for me. I faced it all by myself].”  She also shared that she was uncomfortable with Sushant Singh Rajput performing intimate scenes in his movies and would fight with him over it.

In another interaction, Ankita Lokhande said, “Bohot acha insaan tha woh. He was a good man. Main aise bolti hu na kabhi ‘tha', mujhe itna ajeeb lagta hai. Matlab abhi toh thik hai normal ho gaya hai. Vicky ka bhi dost hai na Sushant toh you know ab woh nahi raha iss duniya; that is the worst feeling [When I say he ‘was' a good man, I feel so strange. I mean it's okay now; it's normal. Sushant was Vicky's friend as well, and when I realised that he is no more, that is the worst feeling]."

Ankita also spoke about the actor's death and how she reacted to the devastating news. Explaining why she skipped his funeral, Ankita said, “Mei toh uske funeral pe bhi nahi gayi thi. Mei jaa hi nahi paayi. Muje laga mei nahi dekh sakti yeh. Mei yeh dekh hi nahi sakti. Vicky ne bola ki tu jaa kar aa. Maine kaha nahi. Kaise dekh sakti hu. Maine woh experience hi nahi kiya tha kabhi life mei  [I didn't even go to the funeral. I couldn't go. I thought I wouldn't be able to see this. Vicky told me to go but I refused. How will I see him? I never experienced anything such in my life].”

Ankita Lokhande said, "There was also a photo of him that was clicked by paps and I got so angry at the level to which paps can stoop down. When I saw him, I felt everything was over… There was this one picture of him which was very bad. Mere haath paaon thande pad rahe the [ My hands and legs went cold]. It looked like he was sleeping. I just kept looking at that picture and thought there was so much in his brain. I knew him very well. He must have had so much in his brain but all was vanished. You are nothing, you're just a body then.”

Vicky Jain

Vicky Jain, who has refrained from naming Sushant Singh Rajput even while referring to Ankita Lokhande's past, made an exception this past week during an argument. During a fight where Ankita admitted to being possessive about Vicky Jain and upset with his bond with fellow contestant Mannara Chopra, Vicky Jain said: “Aap ke rishtein pavitra, mere saath kharab? [You relationships on pure and mine are bad?]” which several fans felt was a dig at Sushant and Ankita's relationship which began on the sets of Pavitra Rishta.

Referring to the controversies and media frenzy following Sushant Singh Rajput's death, Vicky Jain said:“Meine jo kiya na, jayse khada raha hu na Ankita, I swear mujhe ek ek din yaad aata hain. And when you do this with me, mujhe lagta hain ye kya hain yaar? Bura lagta hain mujhe. Kabhi tereko mein kuch nahi bola. Koi cheez mein mein tere beech mein nahi aaya.  Itna badha Sushant ka matter tha, itni sari cheezein thi, mein kyase khada raha tere saath? Tereko jitne interview dene the, tereko jo bolna tha, mein kabhi beech mein aaya ksii cheez ke liye? Arrey mein baithke likhta tha tere saath ki tereko kyase karna hain sari cheezein. Kya hain yaar? Mein toh tere saarein jung mein barabar khada raha, kabhi tujhpe koi question uthne nahi diya. Aaj tu meri har move pe question uthati hain, mu banati hain, kya hain yaar ye? [I have stood up for you during the worst times. I remember each day clearly. I feel bad when you do this to me. I have never interfered in any matter of your life. The Sushant matter was a big one. There were so many issues but I stood by you. Did I ever say anything when you gave all those interviews and said all those things. I used to sit and write things for you. What is this? I stood by you in all your battles, never raised a question against you. But today, you question every move I make, you make faces. What is this?]

Vicky Jain's mother - Ranjana Jain

The Family Week episode saw Ranjana Jain, Vicky Jain's mother, enter the show and express her displeasure at how the two were conducting themselves. Following her exit, she spoke to ABP News and was asked about Ankita repeatedly mentioning Sushant in the show. To this, she said: "Yeh (Ankita) khud le rahi hai [Ankita herself mentions Sushant's name]."

Pressed further about the reasons behind Ankita's actions, Vicky's mother expressed, "Sympathy jata rahi hai aisa lagta hai [It seems she is seeking sympathy]." The interviewer dug deeper, asking for whom Ankita is seeking sympathy. Ranjana responded, "Apne liye aur kiske liye? Sushant ko kya pda hai vo to chale hi gya hai bechara. Vo tha jab hi bator ke le gaya. Kitne ache ache kaam kiye usne to. [For herself and for whom else? Sushant is not bothered; he has already left. He did so many good deeds during he was alive]."

Ankita Lokhande's mother -  Vandana Lokhande

Vandana Lokhande, meanwhile, defended her daughter against Ranjana Jain's comments and said, “Ankita ne khud hoke kabhi bhi nahi pucha. Munwar Faruqui ne usko pucha tha, tab usne bataya ki haan vo aisa tha [Ankita herself never initiated the conversation. Munawar Faruqui asked her, and she responded that yes, he was like that],” and added that the conversations between Abhishek Kumar and Ankita about Sushant were also initiated by Abhishek.

Talking to Galatta India, she also shared that Ankita continues to share a warm equation with Sushant Singh Rajput's sisters and father.

However, it may be noted that during the Family Week episode when Vandana Lokhande entered the show, she asked Ankita to refrain from talking about Sushant Singh Rajput, saying, "Present me reh. Ab past mein mat ja [Be in the present, don't go back to your past]." Ankita tried to defend herself, but her mother pointed out, "Bar bar bolti hai [But you keep talking about Sushant]."

Reminding her of the conversations with Munawar Faruqui and Abhishek Kumar about Sushant, her mother sternly advised, "But mat bol na. Kuch bhi mat bol [But don't say anything]." While Ankita agreed, she also confessed, "But maine toh Vicky ke samne bhi bola [But I have also talked about Sushant in front of Vicky]."

"Sab Vicky jaise nahi hai na. Uske ghar ke log kya sochenge, kya sochte hai [Not everyone will be as understanding as Vicky. You never know what his family thinks about it]," explained her mom. Vicky Jain and Ankita Lokhande have been married since December 2021.
